Cardno Government Services is seeking a Senior Terrestrial Biologist in our Honolulu, HI or Solana Beach, CA offices

Cardno is working with the defense, government, and commercial clients and regulatory and resource agencies on complex environmental compliance projects throughout the Pacific region, and requires specialized staff expertise and experience with species of terrestrial plants and animals that are indigenous to this area of responsibility. The Senior Program Biologist will be expected to provide guidance on the biology and habitat requirements of threatened and endangered species in coordination and consultation with regulatory agencies and clients; contribute to the preparation of environmental documents and deliverables; and represent Cardno at client meetings, professional society symposia, and related functions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

>Plan, design and conduct appropriate field and literature research together with other Cardno and cooperating agency staff members
>Critically analyze field data, prepare reports of findings
>Recommend avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures
>Support informal and formal endangered species consultation, as appropriate, with resource agencies
>Provide advice and support of resource sampling and related efforts for projects within marine and terrestrial environments
>Mentor junior biologists and cross-train other staff members, and provide opportunities for them to assist with field work as appropriate
>Co-author and peer review reports of findings for submission to clients

Job Requirements


>M.S. (PhD preferred) in terrestrial biological or ecological science; at least 10 years-experience post-graduate professional experience including field studies in Hawaii, Guam, CNMI, other Pacific Islands, and East Asia
>Knowledge of scientific research methods and statistical analysis of field data
>Professional consulting experience with endangered species surveys, studies, and consultation under Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act
>Excellent inter-personal and professional communication skills and proven ability to prepare written reports of findings, professional papers, and related literature
>Ability to conduct field work safely rugged Pacific island habitats, and hike outdoors for extended periods of time in steep terrain under hot and humid conditions while carrying up to 50 lbs of equipment
