Job Description

Cardno is seeking a SUE Technician lll in our Portland, OR office

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

> Performs vacuum excavation tasks (utility locating), and utility detection and marking tasks (utility designating)
> Supports overall crew activities)
> Operates vacuum truck and related tools and equipment such as a jackhammer, pogo-tamper, concrete saw, compressor blower, vacuum hose and air lance and hand tools)
> Performs pavement coring and pavement restoration)
> Drives commercial motor vehicles)
> Completes paperwork including record keeping and simple mathematics legibly and accurately)
> Performs daily basic maintenance on vehicles)
> Performs related duties such as setting up maintenance of traffic as directed, making basic field measurements and performing routine utility designating tasks as instructed)
> Performs minor maintenance and troubleshooting operating problems on vacuum systems
> Uses geophysical equipment, including pipe and cable locators and ground penetrating radar, to designate and mark subsurface utilities)
> Sketches utilities using Microstation, AutoCAD, or design plans)
> Comprehends and interprets utility and highway design plans, atlases and record drawings)
> Oversees and coordinates the effective maintenance and operation of vehicles, equipment, tools and supplies)
> Administers monthly tailgate safety meetings)
> Selects and implements proper maintenance of traffic signage)
> Supervises all crew activities as assigned)
> Performs “one-call”/ Utility Damage prevention 811 notifications and communicates and coordinates with utility company representatives)
> Represents and communicates on behalf of Cardno and crew when encountering third parties in the field)
> Coordinates survey activities in connection with field work)
> Trains other crew members

Job Requirements


> High School Diploma Required
> Higher education degree or certificate preferred
> Highly skilled in geophysical investigations and utility designating for underground utilities including use of multi-frequency equipment and ground penetrating radar
> Background check/ Drug Screen/ DOT physical/ safety training required
> Clean driving record with a valid drives license required
> 2 years experience as a Tech II or 3+ years in the successful application of geophysical equipment in utility designating and locating for a contract utility locating company, preferably with a Subsurface Utility Engineering firm
> Ability to perform physical movements and actions, commensurate with operating heavy tools and equipment
> Outdoor work in all climates
> Possible extensive travel by motor vehicle or airplane up to 2 weeks continuously and overtime as needed
> May on occasion or regular basis supervise field associates in all daily crew activities as delegated by Project Manager
> OSHA safety certification beneficial
> Military service with NCO training beneficial
> Surveying experience beneficial
